RLA PRIMER PU is a moisture curing polyurethane primer, specifically designed for use with the RLA PU850 liquid membrane and RLA FLEX-PRO polyurethane sealant range to ensure optimal adhesion to porous substrates
FEATURES & BENEFITS
- One part-no mixing required
- Promotes optimal adhesion of RLA polyurethane based sealants and membrane systems
- Excellent adhesion to concrete and other compatible porous surfaces
- Reduces surface outgassing
- Good water resistance
- Low viscosity with good penetrating properties
- Corrosion resistant
SUBSTRATES
- Concrete
- Render
- Masonry
- Concrete block
- Compressed fibre cement sheeting
- Structural plywood
APPLICATION
- RLA Primer PU is to be applied neat. Do not dilute
- Apply Primer PU using a brush or short/medium nap roller to surfaces until full coverage is achieved
- Ensure that Primer PU is thoroughly worked into the substrate to fill voids and eliminate pinholes. If pinholes or bubbles are seen in the cured primer, additional coats of Primer PU should be applied before the subsequent membrane application
- Each layer should be applied perpendicular to the previous one
- When using abrasive preparatory techniques such as shot blasting, sand blasting or grinding, it is essential to apply minimum of 2 x coats of Primer PU
- It is advisable to apply Primer PU when the substrate is cooling down (after the peak heat of the day) to minimise out-gassing and reduce the risk of pinholes or bubbles
- Finishes are to be applied within 24 hours of the cured primer coat. If exceeding 24 hours, apply a further coat of Primer PU and allow to dry. Apply finishes within 24 hours of the dried film
LIMITATIONS
- Do not apply PU Primer when surface or ambient temperatures are above 35ºC or below 5ºC.
- Do not apply when raining or when rain is imminent
- Not to be applied over damp surfaces, surfaces with high residual moisture or subject to rising damp. Refer to RLA MOISTURE SEAL for details
- Ambient relative humidity should not exceed 85%. Conditions exceeding this will affect curing/drying times
- Not to be used as an exposed sealer coat
- Finishes are to be applied over within 24 hours of the cured primer coat
